MetroPlan Orlando Host to Central Florida’s first TransitScreen

Posted on: May 31, 2017 in Transportation News

Visitors to the MetroPlan Orlando office now have access to a simple, singular display of real-time travel information. Our lobby hosts Central Florida’s first TransitScreen, a type of civic technology that shares up-to-date information about the five different transportation options around our downtown location.

The TransitScreen is a pilot program for one year and is sponsored by reThink your Commute, a program of the Florida Department of Transportation. With information about SunRail and LYNX arrival times as well as the closest Juice and Zipcar stations, someone may decide to try a mode of transportation other than driving alone.

The number of transportation options around our office in downtown Orlando have increased significantly in the last few years. SunRail, Lymmo, Lynx, Juice bikes, and Zipcar all have stops within a few minutes’ walk of the MetroPlan Orlando office. The information provided through the TransitScreen can assist a visitor with their choice to walk, bike, or use transit.

The addition of TransitScreen aligns with Smart Cities** efforts in the region, while supporting our public health and sustainability initiatives. Collectively, our transportation options and the ability to use them can enhance the quality of life for everyone in Central Florida.
