Volunteers Needed to Count Cyclists and Pedestrians in Central Florida
Because of rainy weather, the 2015 counts have been postponed until October. The events will be held on Oct. 15 and Oct. 17.
MetroPlan Orlando is preparing for another round of pedestrian and bicyclist counts, and we need volunteers at key locations around the region. These counts will measure effects of infrastructure improvements (such as SunRail, crosswalks and bikeways) and other changes on pedestrians and cyclists.
We will be counting in 2-hour blocks in two days in September. We’re looking for at least 40 volunteer to observe pre-determined locations. Volunteers will receive T-shirts, water bottles and other goodies for their efforts. Here are the important dates:
- Training session — Monday, Sept. 14, 5:30 p.m.
- Weekday Count — Thursday, Sept. 17 Oct. 15, 4-6 p.m.
- Saturday Count — Saturday, Sept. 19 Oct. 17, 12-2 p.m.
The training session is mandatory for first-time counters. Folks who volunteered for the September count are encouraged to attend, but are not required. We have uploaded a training video to the program page where you can freshen up your counting skills.
Please consider joining us and/or helping us get the word out. Click below to see a flyer about the event and a list of all count locations.
If you wish to volunteer, please email Gabriella Arismendi — firstname.lastname@example.org — the day(s) that you are available and your preferred location.
